What is HVE Certification

Posted by Philippe Polleux on

HVE stands for Haute Valeur Environnementale or in english : High Environmental Value (HEV).

It is a certification created in 2012 by the French minister of agriculture.

It aims to encourage farmers to focus on biodiversity, control and reduction of the use of pesticides, fertilisers and a better management of water. It is a way to have sustainable agriculture. This program includes 3 levels, and only at the third level, wine producers and farmers can receive and advertise the HVE certification.

Basically, it is a way to help and encourage farmers to care  better for the environment.

It would be complicated to compare it to the organic certification as rules and focus differs a lot but producers can have both.

Some of our producers joined that system like domaine de Mauperthuy in Burgundy

or Domaine de Castelnau in Languedoc.
